John began racing in 1965. He has raced just about anything with wheels. He has raced on tracks all over U.S and Canada with trips to Germany and Japan amassing over 200 wins.
He started racing in SCCA in an Austin Healy Sprite, then moved to Formula Vee winning the International Brundage Trophy race in Daytona driving for Zink Cars in 1970. He moved to Formula Super Vee running SCCA Nationals and Gold Cup Pro Super Vee series, best finish 2nd at Riverside, CA and 5th in the Gold Cup Points. He started building special Hill Climb cars using Formula Super Vee, Formula Fords and Formula Atlantics cars stuffing Mazda Rotary racing engines into them with twelve over all Chimney Rock Victories thru 1984. He has raced production cars in SCCA C production, GT2, GT1. Trans Am, American GT, Grand Am, NASCAR, BUSCH, ARCA Stock car and IMSA GTU in pro racing. Just a few of his wins are Miami Grand Prix GTU 2 times, Long Beach GP GTU, Watkins Glen GTU and ARCA stock cars, 2nd place in IMSA GTU points 1990. He has also been involved in Historic Sports Car Racing (HSR) in the following classes GTP, GTO, GTU, WSC and the stock car class with many wins.
John says, all wins are great, but winning the Daytona 24hr in American GT in 2000, after years of second, thirds and worse and the ARCA stock car race in 2001 at Watkins Glen are right at the top of most exciting list. In 2008, he raced a 1979 Protofab Formula Super Vee designed by Bob Riley to a first overall finish at the Eagles Nest Hill Climb in North Carolina after a twenty-four year sabbatical from his last overall win in hill climbing.
